I originally signed in to gmail and google with my aol email account years ago

Hi philip, aol email is based on yahoo which has recently changed to using an application specific password for outside access (pop3, imap, smtp) So generate an asp in your aol account, and use that instead of the normal password when configuring them in gmail. When i check who are the recipients of the email, my own email is not visible The only recipient email visible is ak@aol.com
