Has anyone out there have or had similar surgeries and have been able to continue to ride?
The point of this post is that i was wondering how bad riding double is, and if a horse can take it
My mare is a decent size 15.3hh with a long back (which brought up my thoughts) I've been riding for over 40 years, and for nearly 30 of those years have suffered severe seat bone pain It started when i was 25, after 12 years riding
Every time i got in the saddle, i would experience pain after a couple of minutes After a long ride i would be left with sore, swollen patches on each seat bone. If they were riding before they ended up riding again Some had varying pain which limited how much riding they did
The ones who seemed happiest with the outcome followed their therapy exercises religiously and also lost weight
To a person, they said that contributed to less pain I guess that would impact any spinal problem. If you're riding in a western saddle, having the stirrups turned properly helps You can either buy a saddle with them already turned, train them to do it yourself or buy a swivel
I find having them turned helps a bunch I do lower my stirrups some, but that can get dangerous if you're trail riding and your horse spooks sideways. On horseback riding, it's not if it's when and how bad will you get hurt. Last year i had a full right knee replacement, and i will need the left one doing as soon as i can cope with the surgery
