It tries to read, i can hear some clicks but then stop trying to read, the led light keep on but nothing happens Can the smartware be removed completely so there is more room on the external drive for other programs Could it be the cable

My wd passport has just done exactly the same thing

How do i install o… What pizza’s talking about is how it works on the my book live On a direct attached drive, smartware makes its own visible folder and then backs up everything in it But it will still completely ignore all the other files and folders on the external hard drive.

I got a new mac book as a gift, but my files are all on my old pc I would like to transfer these files to the mac book I did pick up a new western digital passport, but i have no idea where to begin Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have a 1tb my passport (wdbacx0010bbk) I plug it in and it lights up and i can hear it spinning, but it will not show under my computer I have tried it in usb 3.0 and 2.0 It recognizes the usb connection, but not the drive

I have two hard drives C:/ for windows and programs d:/ for documents, files, music, video, etc, etc (my user profile has been relocated onto the d:/ drive The mybook essential backs up c:/ fine (i’ve tested and looked inside the wd smartware.swstor and all is as it should be For my d:/ drive, wd smartware.

The question is specific … can the external drive still function legally and perfectly without the smartware being on the external drive
