Not laurences biggest fan but i think the lack of transparency surrounding true geordie in the last couple of years has massively hurt his appeal (obviously the controversies too).
The definition of geordie for newcastle and tyneside and mackem for sunderland and wearside has existed for almost 200 years
However it has existed alongside the definition of geordie being applied to all within the north east within the region itself (including some wearsiders referring to themselves as geordies) as well as on a national basis. I haven't watched loads of youtube or podcasts in the last couple of years but i wanted to watch some of the old tg podcasts from 2016/17/18 era from when i was a massive fan for some nostalgia, but it seems a lot of old episodes have been deleted or unlisted For example the poet and vuj podcast and several of the brian and loz duo episodes from that era Is there links to unlisted episodes.
Replacing geordie wouldn’t be killing joke so much as a killing joke tribute—a fun night out, but let’s not kid ourselves Then again, it is not my band or career, so i am in no position to judge the decisions the band will make in the future.
